Villa Shadow and Light Competition | 2026
[first prize]

Villa Riviera

This project, located in Nice, France, was developed with a holistic design approach inspired by the architectural language of the Riviera. The building and its surroundings were considered as a unified whole, with the existing facade reconfigured to reinforce its architectural identity. Open spaces were redefined through an integrated landscape design. Hard and soft landscape elements were designed together to ensure spatial continuity and enhance user comfort. The planting strategy was developed using species appropriate to the climate and local vegetation of the Nice region. In addition to the landscape design, social and recreational outdoor areas such as a swimming pool and a barbecue area were incorporated into the project.

The interior spaces were completely restructured, with the spatial organization redefined to prioritize functionality and quality of life. Furthermore, the relationship between the basement level and the exterior was strengthened by adding a glass structure, creating a small winter garden. This intervention enhanced the transition between interior and exterior spaces, making it more transparent, luminous, and enriching the overall user experience.
